Job Description:

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more [ "The Mental Health APRN functions directly to support the activities of the local Mental Health and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (Alexandria, Brainerd and Montevideo) and is responsible for the planning, integrating, implementing, modifying and evaluating the effectiveness of the Veteran's care. DUTIES: Collaborates closely with provider(s), healthcare professionals, VA and nonVA health care providers and organizations. Provides ongoing professional assessment, coordination, planning, and advocacy on behalf of the Veteran to ensure that necessary clinical services are received in a timely and cost-effective manner. Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process. Demonstrates consistent clinical competence in providing nursing care. Initiates and implements an interdisciplinary plan of care based on assessments. Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided. Makes assignments and directs activities of other unit staff, (RNs, LPNs, students, PSAs, other team members). Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems that result in improved patient outcomes. Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills. Treats all patients and families with dignity and respect. Listens to and honors patient and family perspectives and choices. Patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner (Patient and Family Centered Care). Maintains professional boundaries with patients, families, and employees. Behavior as a role model is transparent and above reproach. Identifies potential and actual problems involving resources and/or safety. Acts to avert or manage the situation in a manner which meets the needs of patients in a safe/therapeutic manner. Effectively plans patient care and nursing resources for maximum staff productivity, staff and time efficiency, and positive patient outcomes. Effective on follow-up actions. Consults with other disciplines for coordinating patient care needs, including post-discharge care. Participates in orientation, unit-based in-services, and mandatory education activities in a self-directed manner. Demonstrates positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Refers and consults with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and integrates recommendations for continuing patient care into the plan of care.
