This position involves working in an emergency room setting. The
unit operates as a Level 4 Trauma center and is Stroke ready. There
are a total of 11 beds, with 7 designated to the emergency room and
2 trauma bays. The department includes a Fast Track urgent care
area, although travelers rarely cover this area. Travelers are
permitted to triage patients. There is no separate holding area in
the emergency room. Psych and seclusion rooms are not available.
Security personnel are not in-house 24/7. The average daily patient
volume is between 25 to 40 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are
1:4. Common diagnoses include strokes, chest pain, abdominal pain,
flu, motor vehicle accidents, and pediatric to geriatric cases. The
use of common drips includes sedatives, paralytics, pressors, and
cardizem. Physicians and mid-level providers are present in the
emergency department, but only one is available at a time. There is
no charge nurse; staffing includes 2 RNs in the emergency room and
additional triage support when necessary. There are no nurse aids,
EMTs, paramedics, or patient sitters currently. Respiratory therapy
staff are not in-house and are consulted only when necessary.
Nurses are expected to manage respiratory equipment, including
ventilators and CPAP machines. Nurses must read their own telemetry
strips, as there are no monitor techs available. X-ray and CT
services are available 24/7. Phlebotomy is conducted primarily by
designated staff unless there is no IV access, in which case RNs
may draw blood. Scheduling consists of 12-hour shifts from 7 am to
7 pm. Managers will create the schedule without the accommodation
of block scheduling. Weekend requirements are every third weekend,
encompassing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holiday work is rotated
among staff, primarily covering the night of holidays. No on-call
or standby requirements exist for this position. Floating to other
departments is not expected. The dress code for the emergency room
is gray scrubs. Unit-specific orientation will take place over 3
shifts, with additional time provided if needed. The charting
