Job Description:

Position Overview:A manager in the Platform Ops organization is responsible for managing and leading highly technical team members to improve IT operational efficiency and stability of software delivery by continually modernizing and maturing our development platform and Platform Ops processes in alignment with IT architecture, modernization, and business objectives. This position is leading the Platform Tooling Team with responsibility for the strategic evolution of the IT development platform and for the prioritization, product lifecycles, and management of software tools and initiatives within Platform Tooling. This manager is also responsible for the growth and development of individual software technical team members and is a hands-on self-starter with a combination of technology leadership and strong collaboration and communication skills.
Responsibilities:Position Specific responsibilities:

  • Understand new and existing concepts of Platform Operations, DevOps, Release Management, and modern architecture and how it applies to the Digi-Key culture and software delivery
  • Grasp IT strategies and map appropriate Platform Tooling strategies drive operational efficiency and stability of software delivery and development.
  • Empower the Platform Tooling team to collaborate with other cross-functional roles and teams to ensure project success, department process alignment, and excellent support of project goals
  • Partner with department leadership to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement to accommodate the evolving needs of the IT Development Platform. This may include organizing training, team coaching, tooling demos, and participation within various Centers of Excellence
  • With the Platform Tooling team, collaborate extensively with IT Software Development teams as the customers of the Development Platform to ensure excellent customer service and fit of solutions.
  • Continually evaluate our Development Platform technology in partnership with Architecture, development teams, infrastructure teams, and technical leaders to assess for gaps or needed adjustments to our tooling stack and determine where a solution should be built, contracted, purchased, replaced, or retired.
  • Lead any necessary assessments, pilots, proofs of concept, or analysis to recommend solutions to leadership and the Architecture review board to continually meet IT needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing budget of Platform Tooling licenses, subscriptions, and other cost models inclusive of infrastructural dependencies and track ongoing usage and returned value on these investments to understand the financial cost and value of the Development Platform.
  • Design and execute acquisition, development, deployment, migration, adoption and end of life strategies for platform tools and execute management of both the Platform Tooling team and a prioritized backlog of work
    IT Management & Leadership Responsibilities:
    • Manage a group of employees; primarily manages employees at seasoned / professional level. Develop team members through the use of strategic delegation. Accountable for the performance of a team within own discipline based on departmental strategy & goals
    • Develop and administer plans and procedures for company personnel; adapt plans to address resource and operational challenges
    • Oversee planning and organization of department activities. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and measurements in alignment with corporate strategy.
    • Lead, plan and organize department staff meetings. Provide business and team updates. Ensure that action items are completed in a timely manner
    • Evaluate reports, decisions and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommend new approaches for continual improvements in efficiency and service of the department
    • Build key partnerships within the organization to ensure understanding of broad business strategy and impact to the Platform Ops organization and vice versa; Leverage expertise and collaboration with areas of Project Management, Agile Services, Business Analysis, Architecture, Operational Excellence, Change Management, IT Infrastructure, and others to align with department processes, goals, and optimize results
    • Act as a change agent who is able to gain consensus and influence action
    • Identify opportunities for team and-or Team Lead development (e.g. hard or soft skill) to ensure industry and corporate standards are met; partner when-where appropriate to develop and organize development activities
    • Continually evaluate assigned department's workforce needs-requirements; coordinate hiring schedule/requirements with HR
    • Monitor and evaluate performance dashboards and reports; determine root cause of issues & propose-lead recommendations & implementation for resolution
    • Provide direction and guidance to employees and manage issues appropriately. Partner with Human Resources (HR) when needed
    • Oversee and provide strong mentorship to employees through effective training, coaching and team building

        • 6 years of relevant education and experience
        • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures
        • Excellent team player and team builder, able to coach the team to reach their highest potential as well as excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse personality types and be collaborative in driving decisions.
        • Ability to understand technical issues, architecture, and software delivery tools
        • Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
        • Must be "self-motivated" as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems with a proven ability to work independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel in a very dynamic and timeline sensitive work environment
        • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
        • Ability to hold team members accountable, set clear performance standards, resolve performance issues, keep team engaged and on task

          Preferred Education and Training:
          • Four-year degree (any)
          • Two years management experience (any)
          • Two years technical leadership in DevOps, Architecture, Software Delivery or related fields
